It can record from any analog video source. There are many configurations available for DVD recorders such as Standalone, DVD Recorder/Hard Drive combo or DVD Recorder/VCR Combo. Normally a computer outfitted with a DVD recorder combined with off the shelf writing software is employed. But it should be known that the ability of the system to copy specific disc formats depends upon the individual capabilities of the software, reader and recorder used.
