The good news about the Celtic Thunder is that they are coming to Roanoke Civic Center. They have currently been named by Billboard Magazine as the top artists in World Music. In next month you will be able to check out Celtic Thunder when their North American tour makes a stop at the Roanoke Civic Center. In Sunday Morning Susan Bahorich talked with two members of the group, Paul Byrom and Damian McGinty. The group is made of six soloists who also perform together. The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is proud to present Celtic Thunder, a group of six Irish and Scottish male vocalists backed by a outclass orchestra. Celtic Thunder will perform powerful ballads, famous hits and heartwarming songs of love and loss at the Benedum Center on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. This performance is part of the 2010-2011 Trust Presents series, sponsored by Cohen & Grigsby. Celtic Thunder vocalists Irishmen Neil Byrne, Paul Byrom, Keith Harkin, Ryan Kelly and Damian McGinty and Scotsman George Donaldson are known for their diverse musical styles and exclusive interpretations of classic songs such as “Standing on the Corner,” “Still Haven’t (Found What I’m Looking For),” “The Proclaimers,” “My Life Without You” and “Hallejeuh” by Leonard Cohen. Celtic Thunder has achieved sales of nearly 650,000 copies to date. Their devoted fan base continues to grow with an active YouTube channel, “Thunder Tube” and multiple QVC appearances. Since 2008 the group has had three massively successful Public Television specials, including the most recent smash hit it’s Entertainment. The new all-male Irish music ensemble Celtic Thunder will be introduced to US audiences with a four-pronged attack. CD, DVD, countrywide stint on public television and fall tour. The new group, created by Sharon Browne, comprises five male vocalists ranging in age from 14 to 40. Browne said the concept was to feature a diverse lineup of “real men” from Ireland and Scotland. Celtic Thunder, which recently changed its name from Celtic Man, will launch a 50-date tour in October to support its upcoming CD and DVD, which are due March 4.
