Is lampworking/torchworking glass blowing easy to learn?
I was wondering because I want to make glass pipes for tabacco and medicinal marijuana patients.
I’m about to get a really good joob in an area with alot of medical patients and I figured it might make some extra money. I was going to get a dvd from http://www.sundanceglass.com/making-glass-pipes-video.htm and get all of the right equipment and everything.
really what my question is, can this be easily picked up? is there enough danger where I should just take a class? I know about how the glass can explode in your face, but I’ll use a welding mask and leather apron. I just want to figure out how it’s done.
Even if this dvd is very good it will be nothing compared to the teaching you will get and experience from a real person. The best way to learn is to have someone at the side of you so they can make sure you are safe. If glass gets too cold straight away once its been heated up it can combust. Its easy to pick up and is a matter of technique so go for it 
Make sure you wear goggles and some lower arm protection so you don’t singe your arm hair or scald yourself. Leather apron is really good or a rubber one works just as well as long as they go past your knee.
